AIMIM Leader Imtiaz Jaleel Heads to Mumbai to Demand Action Against Hate Speech
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel embarked on a journey to Mumbai on Monday to press for action against Hindu seer Ramgiri Maharaj and BJP MLA Nitesh Rane for their alleged anti-Muslim remarks.
On September 11, Jaleel announced his plan to visit Mumbai on September 23, where he intends to present copies of the Constitution to officials in the ruling Mahayuti coalition and senior police personnel, while demanding accountability for Maharaj and Rane's comments.
The controversy erupted after Rane spoke at two public meetings in Ahmednagar on September 1, supporting Ramgiri Maharaj, who has faced backlash for derogatory statements regarding Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. Rane himself is under scrutiny, with multiple cases filed against him in Maharashtra for his speeches deemed offensive to Muslims.
Before his departure, Jaleel launched the 'Tiranga Samvidhan' rally, which is set to travel to Mumbai via the Samruddhi Expressway. He expressed that his initiative has garnered support from many who cherish Maharashtra's culture and heritage. "The state has forgotten the values of Phule, Shahu Maharaj, Ambedkar, and Shivaji Maharaj. We are going to remind the government of these principles," Jaleel stated.
Initially, Jaleel had planned to travel through Gangapur and Vaijapur but opted for the expressway route to avoid confrontations. He noted concerns over a pro-Hindutva group's planned march in Gangapur, which he claimed was targeting a specific community. A significant number of supporters from Nanded joined Jaleel’s rally, highlighting the growing momentum behind his cause.
